AtmosTalk, a forum discussing the potential of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in Malaysia and climate technology opportunities, successfully concluded on September 3, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The event was co-organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur and Fairatmos, a climate technology company focused on developing climate change mitigation projects in Southeast Asia.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Hermono, along with leading experts from environmental academia and NGOs with experience in implementing NbS carbon projects in Malaysia, served as speakers at the discussion. The diverse perspectives of the speakers offered a comprehensive view of various aspects of Nature-Based Solutions.

His Excellency Hermono delivered the keynote speech at AtmosTalk Malaysia.

Our two countries have great potential to find nature-based solutions to achieve our common goals,” said Ambassador Hermono from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Malaysia. “This is the perfect time to share knowledge and experiences. I am honored to be part of this journey towards achieving our global commitments. I hope this discussion is just the beginning of many more opportunities to come.”

The event highlighted the importance of collaborative learning, knowledge sharing, and developing innovative solutions to address the challenges of implementing NbS in climate change mitigation action projects. Participants gained valuable insights into the potential of NbS in addressing climate change, with in-depth discussions on the contributions of NbS from the forestry sector, lessons learned from successful projects such as the Kuamut Rainforest Conservation Project in Malaysia, and the crucial role of technology in supporting the sustainable implementation of NbS.

“Nature Based Solutions carbon projects can balance the need for conservation and economic growth. It is where reforestation and reduction of emission from land clearing, deforestation, are valued in economic value,” said Natalia Rialucky, CEO and Founder of Fairatmos.

AtmosTalk is expected to be a positive first step in driving more effective collective action to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts in Malaysia.
