What You'll Do
- Lead the development, implementation, and management of a nursery and planting program.
- Be responsible for the Profit and Loss (P&L) of the nursery, ensuring financial sustainability while achieving ecological goals.
- Design and build a nursery from the ground up, including site selection, infrastructure setup, and sourcing of propagules
- Oversee the daily operations of the nursery, including propagation, growth monitoring, and maintenance of mangrove saplings.
- Implement best practices for nursery management to ensure high survival rates and healthy plant growth
- Identify and implement innovative, cost-effective technologies and methodologies for large-scale planting.
- Plan and execute planting projects, including site preparation, planting, and post-planting monitoring.
- Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to ensure successful project implementation.
- Develop and manage the nursery’s budget, ensuring cost efficiency and financial sustainability, including P&L
- Source funding opportunities, grants, or partnerships to support the nursery and planting initiatives
- Conduct research to improve nursery operations, planting success rates, and overall project efficiency.
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of nursery staff and field workers.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, ensuring team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Prepare regular reports on nursery operations, planting progress, and financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and project guidelines.
What This Role Needs
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Forestry, Ecology, or a related field.
- Have a strong background in mangrove, peatland or mineral soil species ecology, nursery management, and environmental restoration
- Have a proven ability to identify and implement cost-effective technologies for large-scale mangrove planting.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mangrove nursery management, ecological restoration, or a related field.
- Experience with financial management, including budgeting and P&L responsibility
- Strong knowledge of mangrove ecology, propagation techniques, and restoration best practices.
- Familiarity with innovative planting technologies (e.g., drone planting, biodegradable planting pods).
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Experience working with local communities and stakeholders in environmental projects.
- Ability to work in remote or challenging field conditions.
